As reported in Deadline, we are very excited to announce that we have optioned Frances Hardinge’s award-winning YA novel CUCKOO SONG. The book is a unique coming-of-age fantasy that was remarkably nominated for both the Carnegie Medal (for children) and the James Herbert Award (for horror.) Frances said “to be following in footsteps of Philip Pullman is pretty amazing” when she won the 2015 Costa Book Award  top prize.

Set in the 1920s, CUCKOO SONG is the story of a young girl, Triss, whose world is turned upside down when she wakes up to find herself eerily different. Seeking answers, Triss unearths a magical folklore world and embarks on a journey to repair a broken family still haunted by the events of WW1.

The rich and bewitching world Frances has created, which sits alongside post-war Britain, and the universal themes that permeate the story  “will resonate with children and parents of all ages and make for a great communal viewing experience.”

“A bold piece of literature…magical, menacing stuff” The Guardian
